Why gas prices keep climbing — and won't stop

If you've searched "cheapest gas near me" recently, you already know the answer is never cheap enough. American drivers are paying more at the pump because gasoline prices are driven by forces almost entirely outside your control: global crude oil markets, OPEC supply decisions, refinery bottlenecks, pipeline logistics, state fuel taxes, and seasonal blending requirements. When any one of these factors shifts — a conflict overseas, a refinery outage, a cold winter — you pay more. Every time.

The average American household spends between $2,500 and $4,500 per year on gasoline. For a two-car family, that figure can exceed $8,000 annually — money that flows directly out of your wallet and into oil markets you have no control over.

Electric vehicles break this cycle entirely. But for many drivers, the concern is simply replacing one recurring cost with another: instead of gas stations, EV charging stations. That concern is understandable — and it's exactly the problem Players Club Non Profit was created to solve.

How much does it actually cost to drive electric?

The numbers are striking. Charging an electric vehicle at a standard public charging station costs roughly $0.25 to $0.40 per kilowatt-hour — translating to approximately $10 to $15 for a full charge, depending on the vehicle. At home on a standard outlet, costs drop to $7 to $11 per equivalent "tank." At a free solar-powered station like the one Players Club is building, the cost is zero.

Beyond fuel, EVs cost significantly less to maintain. There's no oil to change, no transmission fluid, fewer moving parts prone to failure, and regenerative braking extends brake pad life by years. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates EV maintenance costs are roughly 40% lower than comparable gasoline vehicles over the life of the car.

Most EV charging stations — even free ones — still draw power from the electrical grid, which means they indirectly rely on fossil fuels in many markets. Players Club's station is different. Our charging infrastructure will be powered by on-site solar panels, with energy storage to provide charging capability around the clock — not just during daylight hours.

This means that every charge delivered at our station carries zero net carbon emissions. The energy comes from the sun, stored locally, and delivered directly to your vehicle.
